Whether your child chooses to dance purely as a hobby or as a foundation towards a professional theatrical career, the training received at the Janet Ashton School of Dance also serves as an excellent platform for the development of life skills, such as: Encouraging self-discipline and self-motivation, camaraderie, social interaction within a structured environment and a sense of achievement, as well as developing the physical core attributes of strength, coordination, musicality and appreciation of the varying stylistic genres required for dance.
The Janet Ashton School of Dance was founded by Lincoln girl Janet Ashton in 1957, with classes at St. John's Church hall, Ermine and Reepham village hall. Since then the school has flourished and expanded to cover numerous locations in and around Lincoln.
Former students of the school have gone on to become professional dance teachers, opening their own schools of dance around the UK and also on to professional performing careers, including London's West End, national and international tours, television and commercial music videos.
The day to day running of the school is now undertaken by Janet's daughter, Alison, a Fellow and triple genre examiner for the Imperial society of Teachers of Dance aided and assisted by both permanent and visiting teachers and professional performers.
The school continues to go from strength to strength with many former students now sending their own children and grandchildren to enjoy dance classes at the school.
The Janet Ashton School offers classes & examinations in RAD Ballet at graded & vocational levels; ISTD Modern, Tap & Classical Greek at graded & vocational levels; non syllabus Jazz classes & workshop classes with visiting professional performers.
